About our Boarding

At Appomattox Animal Hospital, we strive to make your pet’s stay as comfortable, safe, and low-stress as possible. Our boarding facility is designed to provide a clean, calm environment with attentive care and the added reassurance of veterinary supervision.

Our canine guests enjoy spacious individual runs along with access to a fenced, grassy outdoor yard and outdoor exercise runs for fresh air and activity.

During nice weather, covered outdoor runs are also available to provide additional outdoor time during your pet’s stay.

Cats are housed in a separate boarding area away from the main treatment area to help minimize stress and create a quieter, more comfortable environment during their stay.

Sleeping Tabby Cat

On weekends, pets receive twice-daily care and monitoring to ensure they remain comfortable and well cared for throughout their stay.

Boarding pets are monitored by our veterinary team, and we are able to administer medications and accommodate many pets with ongoing medical needs.

While our goal is to keep every pet safe, comfortable, and healthy during their stay, unexpected illnesses or injuries can sometimes occur. If your pet needs medical attention while boarding, our veterinary team may provide reasonable and necessary care to protect their health and well-being.

The pet owner is responsible for the cost of any examinations, diagnostics, medications, treatments, or other veterinary services provided during the boarding stay.

Boarding Requirments

To help keep all of our boarding guests safe, healthy, and comfortable, we require the following vaccinations and preventive care prior to boarding.

Dog Requirments

  • Rabies vaccination

  • Distemper/Parvo (DHPP/DAPP) vaccination

  • Bordetella vaccination

  • Canine Influenza vaccination

  • Negative fecal examination within the past year

Cat Requirments

Note* animals must have the complete vaccine series to be eligible for boarding.

If your pet’s vaccines or fecal testing are due prior to boarding, our team may be able to update these before your stay. Please contact us in advance to discuss scheduling and availability.

Proof of vaccination is required prior to scheduling boarding reservation.

Boarding Drop-Off & Pick-Up Hours

Boarding drop-off and pick-up are available during regular business hours only:

Monday through Friday
8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

We are unable to accommodate boarding admissions or discharges on Saturdays or Sundays.

Boarding Safety

The safety, comfort, and well-being of every pet in our care are our highest priorities.

Some pets may be asked to complete a behavior assessment before boarding. Pets may be declined for boarding if we believe the boarding environment would not be safe or appropriate for the pet, our staff, or other animals.

If a pet develops concerning behaviors during their stay, we may require that they be picked up early. Our veterinarians may also recommend medications or other medical support to help reduce anxiety and allow the pet to board more safely and comfortably.

Boarding eligibility and the ability to continue a boarding stay are determined by the hospital team based on each pet’s individual needs, behavior, safety, and welfare.
